Did you know you can get from Hong Kong to Zhuhai in less than an hour? Zhuhai is located in the Pearl River Delta Estuary, borders Macau by land and overlooks Hong Kong. Being part of the Special Economic Zone, it’s seen rapid growth over the years, but that hasn’t taken away from its natural beauty. It has stunning coastlines, peaceful islands and vast stretches of greenery. If you have never visited the city and have been wondering whether it’s family-friendly enough, we’re here to tell you about the wonders that await you and the kids in Zhuhai. Things To Do In Zhuhai With Kids

There is just so much to do in Zhuhai with kids that one weekend is simply not enough (no wonder Elly goes there so regularly!). We have tried to narrow it down to our top seven picks that the entire family will enjoy.

Chimelong Ocean Kingdom

This is one of the most-visited theme parks in the world and with good reason! You can see almost all the sea animals you can think of, and they also have different animal-themed rides and roller coasters, theatre shows with acrobats and performers, a float parade and an incredible fireworks finale over the Hengqin Ocean Lake.

You must visit the Whale Shark Aquarium, holder of five Guinness World records! Honestly, just visiting Chimelong Ocean Kingdom could take up all of your stay in Zhuhai!

Sassy Mama Tip: Don’t get confused with Chimelong in Guangzhou, which is part of the same group. The website for both is the same and isn’t very user-intuitive, so it’s best to follow the booking link we’ve provided below.

Sumlodol Camping Park Zhuhai

This camping park promises a whole lot of fun for the whole family. It has plenty of play facilities for kids of all ages and is next to Xingqi Tower Unpowered World, which is a large outdoor playground plus amusement park (tickets required). After your kids have run around and played outdoors the whole day, it’ll be time to unwind and enjoy some family time in the evening. Sumolodol Camping Park offers a variety of rooms, depending on what type of campers you are. There are standard hotel rooms, high-end RVs, container villas, unique wooden houses, wild luxury tents and self-driving RV camps.

Xianglu Bay Beach Zhuhai

If a holiday doesn’t feel like one without a beach visit, make sure you head to the Xianglu Bay Beach. There are many beaches in Zhuhai, but this is one of the most well-known and popular ones. It almost feels like being home at Repulse Bay! It’s connected to a shopping mall, so you can browse gifts and knick-knacks for friends back home while your kids play in the sand and soak up the sun, even if they don’t swim! A good time to visit is during the spring-time Kite Festival when it feels serene and beautiful, and the weather is just perfect!

Sassy Mama Tip: Look out for the Statue of The Fisher Girl. This is a Zhuhai landmark and you’ll have a sweet folk tale to tell your kids. Legend has it that the Fisher Girl was a sea fairy and the daughter of the southern Sea Dragon King, who fell in love with a local fisherman. Though their love story was thwarted, the heartbroken fisherman finally found a way to bring the dead fairy back to life.

Imperial Hot Springs Resort

As the name suggests, this is a hot spring resort. Though manmade, it is tastefully done and recreates the Japanese-style hot springs (arguable, as some websites claim it follows the Tang dynasty architecture!). The hot spring inn integrates various themed restaurants, stalls, teahouses and other elements of a village.

The “Village Street Food” is one of the most interesting aspects of the resort. It’s like the buffets in other hotels, but instead of sitting down and eating in a banqueting room, you walk through a “village” and pick out what you want to eat (so much more fun for the children!). Other than the different types of food, you can also enjoy bands, live shows and play booth games.

Baitengtou Fishery Wholesale Market

Love the feel of Hong Kong’s wet markets? Then you will definitely like the Baitengtou Fishery Wholesale Market. You can buy seafood here (fresh catch and at much lower prices) and take it to restaurants asking them to cook it for you.

Zhuhai Aerospace Land

This centre opened in January last year and is becoming a popular destination for school visits from Hong Kong. It covers an area of around 42,000 square meters, with eight exhibition areas and 20 immersive interactive experience spaces. Kids will love the flight simulators, the games and VR experiences.

Farm Visits In Zhuhai

All kids love going to farms and Zhuhai offers plenty of them. You can take your kids strawberry picking, lemon picking and get them to pet and feed many domesticated farm animals. This is the one that Elly recommends (田園部落 – if you’d like to show the taxi driver), but you can also check at the hotel reception for an option that is closer to where you are staying.

Other Places To Visit & Things To Do In Zhuhai With Kids

Outdoor playgrounds – There are plenty of places for kids to run around and play. We really like Xingqita Unpowered World (mentioned above), which is worth a visit even if you’re not staying at Sumlodol Camping Park.

Zhuhai Opera House – You don’t need to get to Sydney to get an iconic ’gramworthy pic. In the shape of two scallops, this is a pretty impressive architectural structure.

Lover’s Road – Strolling down this seaside promenade is lovely, especially in the evenings. While you’re walking down Lover’s Road towards the beach, you will spot the Statue of The Fisher Girl – another one to snap up for the ’gram!

Where To Stay In Zhuhai With Kids

There is so much to see and do at Zhuhai (even if it’s your second or third trip there!) that you may need to consider where to stay overnight. There are plenty of hotels in and around Chimelong Ocean Kingdom itself. There have cute, kid-friendly themes and offers deals and packages if you are going to the park (but of course, you are!).

Chimelong Hengqin Bay Hotel

This is our pick of places to stay if you want to spend your time in Zhuhai at the Chimelong Ocean Kingdom Park. There is a free shuttle bus from the hotel to the park, and you can buy ticket packages (starting with a package of 2 days at the park and one night in the hotel). Your kids are bound to love the dolphin themes running throughout the hotel – they can come back to Hong Kong and  proudly claim to have swum with dolphins!

Any Marriott hotel is always a good option for families and we like that the hotel is offering an Aerospace Land package all of this year. This includes a Zhuhai Aerospace Land ticket for one adult and one child, along with unlimited access to the children’s club and outdoor children’s swimming pool. How To Get To Zhuhai From Hong Kong

The creation of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge has made it really easy to get to Zhuhai. You can take the bus there – it takes around 40 minutes via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge shuttle bus.

You can also take the ferry, and the high-speed ferry from Hong Kong or Kowloon should take just over an hour.
