Planning a day trip to the Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden? Here’s everything you need to know from kids’ activities to how to get there, entrance fees and more.
Sir Horace and Lord Lawrence Kadoorie founded this farm back in 1956 for refugees to make a living out of farming, but with Hong Kong’s declining agricultural industry, it has since been transformed into an environmental conservation centre. What now resides at the farm is everything from exotic animals to easy hiking trails and organic veggies. We love that it’s suitable for all ages and that most of the path is stroller-friendly. We break down everything you need to know before heading to the Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden.

Wildlife At The Kadoorie Farm And Botanic Garden
The Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden actively rehabilitate and nurses animals, some of which are protected in enclosures and open to the public. Below are some key attractions to drop by:
- The Reptile Garden to catch Water Monitors and several species of small turtles.
- The Reptile House for the rare Golden Coin Turtle and tiny endemic Romer’s Tree Frog.
- The Native Mammal Display to catch a glimpse of Hong Kong’s native wildlife, including the Leopard Cat.
- Parrot Sanctuary to spot different parrot species, each one beautiful and intelligent.
- The interesting Insect House to learn how they help balance nature.
- The Pigsties house a few Da Hua Bai pigs.
Whilst this is a great chance for kids to get close to nature, it is important to be mindful and respectful to wildlife. Do not try to feed them and avoid flash photography as some animals are sensitive to light.

Plant Exhibits At The Kadoorie Farm And Botanic Garden
There are plenty of plant exhibits, gardens and native flowers present at the Kadoorie Farm And Botanic Garden – from greenhouses to an orchid sanctuary and more broad walks like the Magnolia Garden and Fern Walk. We also recommend stopping by the Forest Restoration Site, which is a wonder across all seasons (autumn leaves in Hong Kong, anyone?) and more than 2200 native plant species have been recorded here.
